This case study highlights how Arc Metal Design successfully fulfilled a client's requirement for a stylish balustrade system that complemented a recently renovated barn in an area of outstanding beauty in the UK. Through a consultative approach and consideration for the local environment, we designed a steel balustrade with an anthracite grey finish and glass infills, meeting the client's aesthetic preferences while blending with the surroundings.

Bespoke Balustrade

Problem Statement

We recently undertook work for a client who has a portfolio of holiday lets across the UK. The client had recently renovated a barn in an area of outstanding beauty. Before the home could be let there was a requirement from the client to provide a balustrade system that was stylish, and tied in with the building and the surrounding area. The client was specific about not wanting the harshness of stainless steel.

What we did

Due to the uniqueness of the site and the specifics of the client's requirements, Arc Metal Design undertook a site survey to understand the area, and the building itself. With a consultative-led approach, we talked the client through numerous balustrade options that would suit the building and the required usage.

Throughout the design process for the whole building, the client was sympathetic to the local area and its surroundings. During the design process we ruled out several balustrade options as they would either be too intrusive on the environment or stylistically not what the client wanted. We finalised a design that incorporated steel for a balustrade and handrail system with an anthracite grey finish and glass infills

Outcome

Arc Metal Design fabricated a bespoke made-to-order balustrade system that was finished in anthracite grey. This ensured the balustrade system tied in with the building and complimented the use of anthracite grey throughout the building. We finally used glass infill panels to provide the safety barrier The result was a seamless extension of the indoors and outside, providing a sleek and modern look whilst respecting the surrounding environment

The client was extremely happy with the finished glass balustrade system and commented: "Just had another look and it's finished the building off really nicely, really happy. Thanks again."
