Walkout Balcony Design Case Study

Location – Leicester

Arc Metal Design was successful in a tender to produce a walkout balcony for a dementia care home. Due to the nature of the site, there were specific balcony requirements that had to be met to ensure patient and resident safety.

What we did

At Arc Metal Design we know that with over 40 years of fabrication experience, we have the skills to overcome most problems. Arc Metal initially undertook the design of the walkout balcony working with all vested stakeholders to understand the specific requirements for the site.

Due to the vulnerability of the residents, there were specific non-standard requirements. Some of these included a balustrade height of 1500m from a standard height of 1100mm. Use of specific types of finishes for fire protection and an open grid flooring to prevent slipping, ice build-up and water pooling.

Once the design was complete and structural calculations produced the project was signed off by the customer prior to production. On approval, Arc Metal Design fabricated and manufactured the walkout balcony before undertaking the installation of the works.
